The sound of Eric
Independently
Chopping the top off of strawberries
And then
Offering me one

The sound of Jessica
Doing a load of laundry
Painstakingly washing a stain
Out of one of her favorite shirts

As I listen
In the distance
To my ‘children’ becoming adults
Answering their questions
As best I can
From my easy chair
